A Message from Jumelle Brooks

From the beginning of this campaign, I have said that I believe in the power of the vote, and I still do! Listen, we shook this race up! We made a tremendous impact! We showed that no one should get too comfortable. I used to have my student program a quote that I live by: “My action or lack thereof will have an immediate impact on someone else.” Translation of relevance to this race, “You casting your vote OR not casting your vote had and will have an immediate impact on someone else.”

In life, our goal should be to inspire or ignite positive change. We DID that!

When on a journey, there are many different paths to take and many different people to encounter. We experienced ALL of that!

When running a race, there is more than one finish line; sometimes, you may not cross them all at once. Crossing the finish line could mean deciding to start, getting people involved, working to increase awareness, or working to increase value. We DID that!

We did not lose the whole race! We lost part of this race. Yes, we suffered a significant setback by not acquiring the seat, and we recognize that now more hurtful and hateful decisions will be made to impact us negatively, but the fight DOES NOT STOP! I advocated for the people before entering the race and will forever be an advocate for the people.

Democracy is the freedom to choose, so today, we have to choose whether our actions or lack thereof will immediately negatively impact someone else. We have the opportunity to make that choice each day. I urge you to start by recognizing the power of that choice.

Thank you, Greenwood, McCormick, and all the support I received nationwide! You have been my purpose, and you will continue to be my purpose. I have plenty of time and don’t tire quickly, so the fight for my family and your family continues.
